Hello folks,

I was messing arounf with a PC Engines ALIX.2 v0.99h for several hours now, and leaving everything rather frustrated.

I wanted to boot FreeNas off the CF and use a dedicated HDD (WD3200BEVE) as data store. would be plenty of storage and horsepower for my needs. But regardless of my efforts, the HDD was always seen as Master device. I tried to jumper the disk, tried different settings in the bios, but without success. Then I read on different sites that it isn´t simply possible to boot off the CF and use the hdd as slave.

can one confirm that?

Yes, it is possible. Jumper the HDD as slave, and you will probably also need to enable the hdd delay in the bios.

I have encountered at least one CF card that does not permit a slave on the same cable. Try another CF card.

I have not attempted a combination of internal CF and internal HDD (at least not in a long time), but an external USB HDD works fine for me.

this does work. The CF is always master, therefor you must make sure the HDD is slave.
